FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 26, 2008 Former State Senator Hugh Webster files in North Carolina's 13th Congressional District
RALEIGH, NC - Former State Senator Hugh Webster filed on Tuesday to run for North Carolina's 13th District seat in the United States Congress. Webster, who represented Caswell and Alamance Counties for twelve years in the North Carolina State Senate, promises to be a staunch defender of America's sovereignty, borders and the rights afforded to every American citizen by the United States Constitution while protecting the wallets of American taxpayers. "Hugh Webster shares the values of the people of the 13th District," said US Congresswoman Virginia Foxx. "While serving in the NC State Senate, he never failed to consider the consequences legislation would have on the average citizen. Unlike his opponent, he supported legislation that is fiscally responsible and that keeps taxes low."
"The excessive spending and the excessive taxation and borrowing it produces, are not only a threat to our economy - they threaten to erode the resource base of our freedom and responsibility," said Webster, promising to work to abolish the current tax code. "The Internal Revenue Code, regulations, tax forms, and instructions constitute a tyranny - an abomination against American citizens. The tax code as we know it must be eliminated."
"I am sure that he would make an outstanding Member of Congress," said US Representative Howard Coble. "I have known Hugh Webster for many years, and I know that he was an effective legislator in Raleigh. It's not always popular to do what's right, especially in politics, but Hugh Webster and I share the same philosophy - that you do the right thing because it is the right thing."
In the North Carolina State Senate, Hugh Webster led the fight to stop illegal aliens from getting N.C. drivers' licenses and fought against liberal legislation to allow illegal aliens to get in-state tuition and register to vote. He has pledged that, as a U.S. Congressman in Washington, he will continue the fight against invasion of illegals. "We are a nation of immigrants but first and foremost, we are a nation of laws," Webster said. "No one has the right to come here and steal from us."
