Press Release

Miller Votes to Punish Taxpayers for Mistakes of Wall Street

In a historic vote, Brad Miller voted against the American taxpayer and for the corrupt and greedy executives on Wall Street whose mismanagement and reckless leadership of their financial institutions have led to this crisis.  While the hard working men and women on Main Street are living paycheck to paycheck and dealing with rising costs on everything from food to gasoline without rising salaries, the executives on Wall Street have been receiving multi-million dollar salaries and golden parachute severance packages when they fail at their jobs.  Brad Miller decided today that it is those executives that deserve a clean slate for their carelessness at the expense of the ordinary citizen to the tune of $700 billion.

It is no wonder that Miller and his leader, Speaker Pelosi, supported this bailout as they have had no problem accepting political contributions from these institutions.  It is only natural that they would want to return the favor with the taxpayers' money.  The cozy relationship between career politicians and Fortune 500 executives contributed to getting us into this mess and replacing them is essential to getting us out of this mess.

Though the bailout had bipartisan support from Congressional leadership, the chance for Speaker Pelosi to score political points in her speech right before the vote almost certainly doomed the flawed legislation.  This crisis has made it clear that new leadership is needed in Washington DC.  Leadership is needed that puts country first, not leadership that uses a national crisis to play the blame game and play partisan politics.

It is time to send honest, hard working representation to Washington to represent North Carolina.  Hugh Webster knows what the average American deals with everyday just to make ends meet.  He knows this because he is an average American who has worked hard his entire life to support his family and put food on the table.  It is this kind of in touch, down to earth, common sense leadership that is needed now more than ever.
