March 8, 2008 Hugh Webster signs FreedomWorks' "No Earmark" Pledge
Former State Senator Hugh Webster, the Republican candidate for North Carolina's 13th Congressional District was proud to sign FreedomWorks' pledge against earmarks on Thursday, March 6. "'Earmarking,' the practice by which members of Congress divert taxpayer funding to special projects outside of the normal competitive and merit-based review process, has grown out of control and is open to waste and abuse," the pledge states. Webster, who took a firm stance against wasteful spending while a member of the North Carolina General Assembly during the years 1995-2006, was proud to go on record that, as a Congressman, he would "personally support spending reform in Congress by refusing to seek, support, or enact earmarks during the appropriations process for fiscal year 2009." Founded in 1984, FreedomWorks recruits, educates, trains and mobilizes hundreds of thousands of volunteer activists to fight for less government, lower taxes, and more freedom.
In the North Carolina General Assembly, Hugh Webster fought on behalf of North Carolinians for less government, lower taxes, and more freedom and pledges to fight that battle for all Americans as a member of Congress, representing North Carolina's 13th Congressional District.
